    What is a Crown?

If your tooth is damaged but not lost, a crown, sometimes referred to as a cap, can be used very effectively to restore the tooth’s shape, appearance and functionality. You may need a crown after a root canal, a very large filling or if you have a broken tooth.

    Types of Crowns

    1. Porcelain Crowns – Porcelain crowns can be molded and sculpted to resemble what a natural tooth looks, feels and functions like. Porcelain is an effective material use for crowns because it typically can replace in the entire exterior of the tooth right down to the gum line.
    2. Ceramic Crowns – Ceramic crowns are a great option for front teeth. They can match any kind of tooth colour and are an especially smart option for those who are allergic to metal.

    Dental Crowns Procedure

To prepare your tooth for a crown, we will freeze the area of the tooth (using a local anesthetic) so you will not feel any pain during the procedure.

Following this, Dr. AminZadeh will file down the tooth being restored, take an impression of the tooth and nearby teeth and place a temporary crown over your tooth.

This will protect your tooth until the permanent crown is ready. The temporary crown may not be the final shape or colour of your permanent crown. At your next visit, Dr. AminZadeh will replace the temporary crown with the permanent crown ensuring that it fits and the shape, colour and bite are perfect.

How long do crowns take to do?

This procedure can usually be completed in one to three appointments at our comfortable specialty dental studio.
